From Bold to Beautiful

Sometime last month, I picked up these bold and vibrant colored candle holders at my favorite local thrift store. They were priced $3.50 a piece but were 50% off, so I paid $3.50 for the pair.

While orange is a beautiful color, it was just not “me”. Drawing inspiration from Julie’s Designs and Signs on Youtube, I had an idea for the perfect farmhouse touch. On the way home from thrifting (again, this was last month BEFORE my no-spend November – but update on that. I have stopped at ONE thrift store, and came out empty handed. So I’m proud to say I’ve stuck to my no-spend EVEN though I tempted myself with a thrift store stop), I stopped by Dollar Tree and picked up two of their small 4 inch round plaques ($1.25 a piece). When I got home, I attempted to sand the candle holders, but to my dismay they were not wood, but some sort of heavy plastic. I then painted them in a matte white.

While waiting for the white to dry, I quickly brushed some antiquing wax onto the two plaques I picked up from Dollar Tree. I gave this time to dry as well before gluing to the bottom of the candle holders. Once everything was dry, I applied a sealer to help protect them. Since I did pick them up thrifting with the intent to resell, I listed them on Marketplace for fun at $20, but if these cuties didn’t sell I was happy to keep them on my mantle for all to see! They sold for $20 the very next day! I was tickled with how they turned out, so I’ll definitely be hunting for more. $14 profit on such a fun project.

I’m so pleased with how these turned out, and can’t wait to find more. Have you attempted any DIYs lately that you loved so much you were sad to see go? Let me know in the comments!
