Simple Decor Swaps for Spring

I’m not a huge seasonal decorator. Christmas is the big decorating time around here, but being a stay at home mom, I’m finding joy in freshening up my space each season. I don’t do this by shopping each season. Instead, I find a few areas where I can use staple pieces and do small, simple swaps to bring in the new season.

Rather than having one large seasonal focal point, I like to choose a few areas throughout the house. I do this in the living area, the kitchen, the bathroom and outside. I keep my swaps small and simple because let’s be honest who wants to store a bunch of stuff that’s used so briefly?

In my living room, I’m trying a little something new this year. I’ve made an Easter banner, or bunting, for the mantle, removed my winter painting from above the mantle, and I have another small canvas by the front door that I swap each season as well. This year, if I can get it done before the season is over, I’d like to include seasonal throw pillows for a pop of color. I’m hoping to make the pillow covers as I already have inserts, and purchased fabric.

In the kitchen, I swap out winter dish towels for a more light and spring vibe. I crocheted the tops of these and I’m loving the playful, floral print. Additionally, I have a cheese grater mounted to one of my cabinets by the sink that I use as a towel holder for drying hands. The grater is upside down so that the handle holds a towel and the top (or bottom rather) is left open and is the perfect spot for displaying seasonal florals.

In the bathroom, I just change my winter shower curtain out for something neutral to carry me through spring and summer. If I have an extra vase or something laying around, I’ll also add a floral to the vanity just depending on what I’m feeling and what I have laying around.

Outside, it’s easy for me to get carried away. Once the weather starts getting warmer and the grass gets green and the crocus’ and daffodils start popping up, I’m ready to be outside. Instead I change out my garden flag, maybe do a pressure wash, and let nature do her thing.

I hope these simple swaps are inspiring for you to help keep your spring decor on a budget. It’s easy to get carried away when stores put out all of their spring items, but with a few staple pieces, you can make simple swaps each season year after year.
